New Managers Ready for 2022
Posted on Mar 28, 2022

The 2022 DRS League season will see four new Managers take the helm. Below are a few Q&A’s highlighting the new Managers:

Montgomery Mallards

New Manager: Greg Westerman

Greg takes over on the field from Tyler Bednar, who will remain on the team as a player.

Greg’s Background:

Born and raised in the Montgomery area and graduated from Montgomery-Lonsdale High School in 1991, having played 3 years of varsity baseball. Went on to and graduated from St Mary’s University in 1996 with a short, one season stint in both the baseball and hockey programs. Played for the Mallards from 1991-2007 and the Lonsdale Jokers 35+ team from 2011-2019.

Managerial or Coaching History:

Player/Manager of the Mallards from 2000-2007 and President of the TCU Youth Baseball Association from 2017-current

2022 Team Goals:

We have a very talented, veteran team so our primary goal is simply to qualify for and make a multi-weekend appearance at the State Tournament.

What characteristics do you hope to instill in your team?

Strengthen the commitment of an already cohesive group of young men with a fun environment, but also establishing a culture of personal accountability focused on results without excuses.

Any other comments?

While immediate success is the primary goal for this summer, we need to do that by also deepening our bench and increasing the number of the regular contributors to the team’s success.  It’s essential that we begin building a core of talented, young players that will start getting ready to lead this team in the future.

Montgomery opens their season hosting a non-League game with Hamburg on April 16, and opens their DRS League schedule on April 24 at New Prague.

Veseli Warriors

New Manager: Bill Dunker

Bill takes over from Corey Friedges, who will remain as a player on the team. Chris Hertaus, will remain as team GM.

Bill’s Background:

From Jackson, MN. 1997 graduate of Jackson High School and went on to MN State Mankato from 1997-1999. Played with the Jackson Bulls from 1997-1999, the Eagle Lake Wave from 1999-2003, the St. Patrick Irish from 2004-2021, as well as the St. Patrick Shamrocks (35+) from 2013-present.

Managerial or Coaching History:

Coached Jr. Legion in Eagle Lake in 2001, 8th grade baseball for the Jordan Hubmen in 2017, Varsity Assistant/Pitching Coach for Jordan in 2018, 9th grade Head Coach New Prague Trojans 2021-2022, Assistant Coach for the St. Patrick Irish from 2013-2021.

2022 Team Goals:

To get back to a winning formula and be the team that nobody wants to play in the playoffs.

What characteristics do you hope to instill in your team?

As a team, we’re going to battle. We’re going to be tough to beat. One thing I’ve learned so far with the group we have is that they are really tired of losing. The guys are excited to get going.

Veseli opens their DRS League schedule on April 24 hosting Union Hill.

Lonsdale Aces

New Manager: Phil Tisdel

Phil takes over from Dave Readmond

Phil’s Background:

Born, raised, and graduated from New Prague. Played 2 years with St Patrick, then made a switch to Lonsdale. I married the coach’s daughter and made Lonsdale my home for what will be my 15th year.

Managerial or Coaching History:

Previously an Assistant Coach with the Aces

2022 Team Goals:

Improve on the last few years and get the Aces back in the State Tournament

What characteristics do you hope to instill in your team?

I want to remind players that we get to play baseball; it’s meant to be fun. I’m excited for the season and this new experience.

Lonsdale opens their DRS League schedule on April 24 at Webster
